Landscape becomes stage
Photography: Print on canvas, mounting foam, 90 x 90 x 5 cm
Sculpture Herbarium: Stainless steel, photography on filament print, LEDs,
110 x 110 x 110 cm, 2024
Landscape Becomes Stage examines the staging of landscape as a site of human intervention. Rather than approaching nature as given, the work considers it as produced through projection, design, and desires. Through photographs of replica forests, artificial seas, and fabricated horizons, Roth depicts environments that maintain an appearance of coherence while subtly disclosing their constructedness. The images register moments in which spatial continuity begins to shift, allowing underlying structures to emerge. A stainless steel herbarium accompanies the photographic work, preserving fragments of these landscapes. It extends the inquiry into processes of storage and memory, situating landscape as something that is not only constructed, but also archived and continually rearticulated.
